I Could Have Saved A Life That Day

I could have saved a life that day, but I chose to look the other way.

It wasn’t that I didn’t care; I had the time, and I was there

I saw the roo out on the road; I swerved around to avoid the load

But oh to quick it hit my side and rolled across to where it died.

I saw the joey jump up and off, it looked to me as though it was tough

I shook my head and drove on by; I didn’t know the joey would die

On my way back I saw the kite, pulling and ripping with all its might

It was only then I saw its prey, that poor little joey being dragged away

Still moving and kicking it tried to live, oh dear god please do forgive

I took a chance, I closed an eye and with that act I let him die

I didn’t know I could have stopped, and then saved that baby to adopt

What will you do….. Remember if you see a dead or injured kangaroo on the side of the road please remember to stop and check for a live joey in pouch or nearby.
